Mark closes his account with the two events that loom largest as far as the glory of God and the salvation of humankind are concerned: Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ was the climax of redemptive history, the focal point of God's plan of salvation. God's redeeming work culminated in the cross, where the Lord Jesus bore the sins of the world. But the wickedness of human beings also reaches its apex. The death of Jesus Christ was the supreme revelation of the gracious love of God while also being the ultimate expression of the sinfulness of human beings.
Questions / Things to Consider:
- In what specific ways would today (or tomorrow) be different if you lived each moment with a conscious awareness of the fact that Jesus Christ is not only alive, but present with you?
- As you think back over the study of Mark, how has your understanding of Jesus as the Suffering Servant deepened? What have you learned?
